Apps and App Studio
In the App Studio you describe an app and the AI builds it. You share finished apps by link or add them to a course as an activity.
Build an app
Availability
Apps are not available on every account. If the menu has no Apps entry, you cannot create apps with your account. You can still open apps that others share with you and apps in your courses.
Open the App Studio
Choose Apps in the menu. My apps lists your apps. New app creates a new one.
Describe the app
Describe in a sentence or two what the app should do and choose Create app. You can also start from a template, for example a vocabulary trainer or a quiz with a leaderboard.
Refine it in the conversation
The AI asks questions back, often with suggested replies to tap, and then builds the app. After that you write in the Chat what should change.
Saved automatically
Every successful change is saved as a new version. If a change fails or you cancel it with Stop, the last version stays.
Preview
In the Preview you try out the app. On small screens you switch between the Chat and Preview tabs. Only you see the preview.
- Device: shows the app as Phone, Tablet or Full width.
- Preview as: shows the app from the view of another role, for example as a guest. This way you check what others see and may change.
Versions and going back
In the More menu, Versions opens two lists.
Saved versions
Every successful change. view opens an older version in the preview, for looking only. Go back to this one restores it. This creates a new version and the app data stays.
Published releases
Every share with its number. Make this one live makes an older release the current one again. After Take offline nobody can open the app through the link or in a course.
Share
For others to use the app, choose Share and decide who can open it:
- Only me: for trying it out before you share it.
- My organisation: everyone signed in at your school or organisation.
- Everyone on the website: also without signing in, wherever the app is embedded in a website.
- Anyone with the link: no sign-in needed, only through the link. The app is listed nowhere.
What gets shared
You can share only once the last change has finished building. Sharing takes the current state. Others see what you change afterwards only after you share again.
Share and embed
Once the app is shared, Share and embed in the More menu opens a dialog.
Link to share
Copy the link with Copy and pass it on. Whoever opens it signs in to Seven Assistant and sees the app if its sharing setting allows it. With Anyone with the link no sign-in is needed.
Embed in a website
The dialog shows HTML code for the place on a web page where the app should appear. Your organisation needs a website integration for this, and an admin must allow apps for it. For guests to use the app as well, share it with Everyone on the website.
Open apps
A shared link opens the app in Seven Assistant. Full screen shows it across the whole screen. You open your own app from the More menu with Open in player.
- You may not open this app: The app’s sharing setting does not include you. Ask the person who created it.
- This app is not published yet: The app is not shared yet, or no longer.
Data in apps
Many apps save entries, for example a leaderboard or a sign-up list. The app itself decides who can see and change which entries. If you delete an app with Delete app in the More menu, its data is deleted too.
Apps in a course
Add an app
In the course, choose Add activity or material for a section and then App. The list shows your own apps that have at least one saved version. You only see the App entry if apps are available on your account.
Pick the app
Pick an app and confirm with Add. The Title (optional) is up to you. Without a title the course uses the app’s name.
Not released yet
You can still pick apps marked Not released yet. Adding the app releases it for your courses only, with the setting Only me. If that fails, open the app under Apps and let it finish building.
Create a new app
The Create a new app link in the list opens the App Studio in a new tab. When the app is ready, pick it in the course.
Good to know
- All course members can use the app there, whatever its sharing setting. Outside the course its sharing setting applies.
- Each app in a course has its own data. The same app in two courses shares no entries, not even with the app outside the course.
- The course shows the shared release. Changes from the App Studio appear there only after you share again.
- If the app is deleted or offline, the course shows This app is not available.
- If you remove the app from the course, its data in that course is deleted.
- What happens to apps when you copy a course is described under Courses for teachers.
